Charles-Henri Sanson

This is yet another pseudo-autobiogrpahy of Sanson, the executioner of Paris. Sanson was the 4th of seven generations of the Sanson family that held the post of Executioner of Paris. Charles-Henri, as executioner of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Robespierre, and thousands of others during the Reign of Terror, understandable occupies a pivotal position, one of intense interest to historians. Unfortunately, he did not leave a journal, or a diary, he did nor pen his memoirs. Several works purporting to be that surfaced in the nineteenth century and these have been taken as real by many people. These stories, while interesting, have been accepted into the lore of the revolution.… (meer)
