> Depuis le milieu des années 80, des centaines de livres, pratiques et théoriques, sont parus sur l’accompagnement des personnes très malades ou en fin de vie. Nous ne pouvons en citer que quelques-uns (les “scènes” 1, 2, 4 et 5 de ce dossier sont tirées de "Réapprivoiser la mort", de Patrice van Eersel, Livre de Poche).

This book tackles the ethical and medical principles involved in the care of the dying and considers the control of pain and other symptoms. It encourages doctors and other professionals to support patients and their families by sharing the truth and understanding their emotional suffering.

The new edition of this successful book has been up-dated to incorporate recent advances in both approach to, and treatment of, the terminally ill. Based on many years of monitoring clinical practice and research at St Christopher's Hospice, Dame Cicely Saunders presents practical, balanced advice on the general ethical and medical principles of caring for dying patients. This will continue to be an invaluable handbook for all hospice physicians and nurses as a compassionate source of factual information.
Review: This useful book offers GPs an easy-to-read, practical guide to palliative care. It is written with clarity and compassion and will not fail to stimulate and motivate the reader. I enjoyed read Living With Dying and would recommend it to anybody involved in palliative care. It may be only a small book of some 60 pages, but it delivers a big message. Dr Alan Duke, Doctor in six very readable chapters, offers guidelines on the management of those symptoms commonly encountered in palliative care ... it is a readable volume and would certainly be a very valuable addition to the primary health care team library Mari Lloyd-Williams, Progress in Palliative Care

This single volume provides information needed by doctors and nurses caring for the terminally ill. The general structure of the book remains unaltered, all chapters being updated, including a section on running a home-care team. Where great advances have been made, some sections have been replaced. There are additional sections on the wider applications of palliative care, the role of the day hospice and the contribution of physiotherapy to symptom control in malignant disease.
