Louise Saunders

Louise Saunders was the wife of Max Perkins, Scribner's editor. Her neighbor in Plainfield, NJ was the illustrator Maxfield Parrish. This book was a project dear to Louise Saunders Perkins. It's a wonder to read and look at. There is more about this book in Scott Berg's biography of Max Perkins. 14" long by 11 1/2" wide and 3/4" thick. Very heavely illustrated with full page pictures of grand vistas, beautifully rendered. Facing pages are in large print. I suppose Ms. Saunders made up the tale written as a play. Reviewers I've read all are gaga over the pictures. I haven't read the play fully but what I've read would have been tough for a child I suspect.… (meer)
