Korte biografie
Catherine "Katia" Sayn-Wittgenstein, Countess Razumovsky, was the fourth child of Prince Nicolai Nicolaievitch Sayn-Wittgenstein and his wife Maria Pavlovna Zouboff. She was born in Starostintse and grew up in Kiev, Ukraine. After the Bolshevik Revolution and the destruction of their home, her whole family fled across Europe, reaching Czernowitz in Silesia. There she worked as a governess and met her future husband, Count Andreas Razumovsky. They had five children and lived in Czechoslovakia, until fleeing to Austria to escape Communism. Her private journals, which she carried with her during her life, were published in several volumes, including La Fin de ma Russie (1990).

Besprekingen

A riveting account of her (aristocratic landowning) family's attempt to survive the Revolution and Civil War -- they were in Petrograd for the February Revolution, then spent 1918 in Mogilev-Podolsky, a town on the Ukrainian side of the border with Bessarabia (first in Austria, then Rumania).
