- Claudia Ann Scott was the first of seven children born to Robert Hogue Scott and Martha Jane Farwell of Placentia, California, later of Grants Pass, Oregon. She graduated from Grants Pass High School, and attended Washington University in St. Louis Missouri. Claudia was a member of the Lavender Woman Collective, which published a lesbian newspaper from Chicago for many years.
She was survived by her three previous life partners; Jody Lynch, Stephanie Lee, and Frances Hanckel, as well as countless friends who experienced her suicide as a personal tragedy.
A well respected poet, Claudia's poetry was published in Lavender Woman, beginning in 1972. Her writing was also published in "The Lesbian Tide."
She was the author of three books of poetry: "Portrait," her first, "In This Morning," published in 1980 by Tree Frog Press after being left undisturbed in her papers, and few years after her death, a selection of her poetry edited by Frances Hanckel, titled "Lesbian Poet: Claudia Scott." Claudia strongly disliked being called a "lesbian poet." She preferred to be called a poet. "Poetry," she observed, "is not sexually active, has no partners of any gender."
