Absorbing account of the ferocious wrangles involved in constructing the famed Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London. Very detailed text, with (for once) a lot of very interesting illustrations (alas, one very interesting one, showing the ruins of the old Houses, isn't reproduced very well). The author obviously has a great deal of sympathy for Pugin and Barry, the two geniuses (now recognized) behind the building, and makes the case that the sympathy is deserved. Some of the Lords' and Commons' sniping comments do NOT come off well, in retrospect! Recommended.… (meer)
