Simple, for counting, but mostly for fun. I liked the elephant expressions. My favorite line was, "Of course, if you just want to impress the neighbors with a quick circus, then the right number of elephants is 5." Because who wouldn't want to impress the neighbors with a quick circus?

This is a silly book about "the right number" of elephants. It doesn't make much sense. There is no logic to it, but it is funny. Through out the book the reader is told "X" is too many elephants, nut "Y" is just right, without any explanation. The teacher and reader can count the elephants on each page as number recognition practice.
