Aster Kelly has won a very prestigious design contest. She leaves New York to be an apprentice for the famous Fernando Tivoli. She falls for all the glamour of old Hollywood. And Fernando falls for an up and coming Hollywood star, Christopher Page. But, life is very difficult for these two because of the stigma of their relationship. When Aster finds herself pregnant, these three devise a plan.

This story is told in two different time periods. One is Aster at a young age and the other is her daughter, Lissy as she struggles to be a Broadway star. And then the secrets start to come out! I loved Aster, Fernando, Christopher and Lissy. These four are amazing and their tale will keep you consumed for hours!

This story captured me from start to finish. I listened to it in one day. And no, I did not see the twist coming. And you will have to read this to find out. And believe me, there are quite a few twists and turns!

I enjoyed another book by this author, Leaving Coy Hill. So, y’all check both of these out! I am definitely putting Katherine A. Sherbrooke on my “lookout list”!

The narrator, Emily Beresford, is one of my new favorites. She was Aster for me!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

I didn't know much about abolitionist and suffragist Lucy Stone and this novel was a great place to start!

Leaving Coy's Hill is historical fiction based on the life of Lucy Stone, a 19th Century advocate for women's rights and the abolition of slavery. Stone was the first woman from Massachusetts to earn a college degree. She broke new ground for women by becoming a public speaker and for keeping her own name after she married -- something almost unheard of in the mid-1800s.

Although now one of the lesser-known of the first wave feminists, Lucy Stone inspired Susan B. Anthony and was admired by Elizabeth Cady Stanton. The three were most connected in the public's mind with the early women's rights movement in the United States.

Katherine A. Sherbrooke breathes new life into the story of Lucy Stone with her novel, Leaving Coy's Hill. Stone's struggle to forge a marriage of equals; balance her career and family; and find fulfillment in a difficult profession, where emotions run hot and colleagues become rivals, is a story as timely today as it was in her time.

Lucy Stone dreamed of going to school and changing the world. And she just about did that. She chose not to get married. Instead she chose to go to college and then tour the country speaking about women’s rights and slavery.

I loved the history in this book. I have never heard of Lucy Stone. She was an amazing woman and she truly changed the way people thought. She definitely was a pioneer for many controversial areas. I love a book which has me researching and this one definitely did!

The story did slow down a bit for me in the middle. But this was a minor issue. There is such a wonderful history about a strong woman which everyone should learn!
