Death Grip by Tracy Sherwood

Kat Heartly, a war hero comes home from the Middle East , but she brings the Middle East with her. Struggling with guilt and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and trying to get back to home life with her family is very challenging. She is haunted by that day when her fellow soldier and lover was killed, she lived and witnessed this tragedy. Will she be able to over come her demons, her past sin, and regain love and trust from her family again?

The story is original, yet it felt so true to life. I can envision something like this happening in the world today. Kat is likable, even with her flaws, her imperfections make her real. The effects of the war and her PTSD are real, and told with vivid heart breaking details.

The story moves swiftly, and we see how each family member handles Kat's crisis. Overall, I felt Death Grip was a masterfully written dramatic heart-felt story. I highly recommend to readers of all genres. The cover is compelling and really shows the deep meaning of this fantastic story.

Kat Hartley has just returned home from the Middle East as a war hero. Her family has been waiting for her, and she knows she’s finally safe here. Except she doesn’t feel safe. She can’t. She thinks she doesn’t deserve it. Not when she watched her fellow soldier die in a fiery Humvee explosion without being able to do something to save his life. Now, Kat is locked in a battle with PTSD, a battle that she feels she is losing. She can’t sleep, she can’t be the wife and mother her family needs her to be, and she can’t live with herself anymore. The soldier whose death she witnessed was more than a friend to her: he was her lover and the husband of her now-widowed sister. So, Kat doesn’t only have to fight PTSD. She also has to confront the guilt of having cheated on her husband and lied to her sister.

“Death Grip” by author Tracy Sherwood is a heart-wrenching novel that explores the tragedy of war, the struggle with PTSD, and the impossibility of going back to your normal life after you’ve faced death. Kat is a realistic and believable character that will immediately draw readers into the world of “Death Grip”. They will root for her and feel her pain and guilt. Ultimately, Kat’s actions and emotions will determine them to consider life, death, lies, and secrets, as well as the importance of family and friends when you’re down and have no way of getting back on your feet by yourself.
