ShutterBox, Book One: Orientation, Damien, Adrien… door Rikki Simons

I clearly had a different response the first time I read this because I bought the next volume, which, if I recall correctly, is better. Part of the problem here is that there's a lot of setup going on but not very much explication leaving things in a bit of a confusing muddle. I finished this feeling that I still don't really know what's going on. The premise is intriguing but I'm looking forward to re-reading the next couple volumes and remembering what the heck is actually happening.

A primera vista, Megan Amano parece una chica normal de Los Ángeles: va al instituto y pasa una buena parte de su tiempo libre haciendo terapia. Pero cuando sueña viaja a un lugar único: una universidad increíble a la que todo estudiante se moriría por ir. Y, de hecho, sería bastante literal... porque la Universidad de Merridiah es el mejor centro educativo del más allá. Aunque, en el caso de Megan, hayan hecho una excepción. Megan va a ser una alumna Shutterbox, un intercambio estudiantil por el que pasará un año en Merridiah preparándose para ser una musa viviente. Pero no es oro todo lo que reluce. A medida que Megan desentraña secretos se descubre un gran misterio, que se revela, curiosamente, a través de una cámara de fotos.

I found this volume to be very disjointed, Hard to follow, and bit creepy - The rules of this world aren't defined.

Is cute typical sojou manga - pretty, but clumsy leading character, two mysterious brothers in magical kingdom of the dead... cute cuddly animal blobs about.
