The main content has been written by 21 different authors, under the overall editorship of Geoff Slattery. The authors are journalists, historians, a contemporary AFL player, Adam Goodes, and one piece, reproduced from a 1948 publication, is by early VFA and VFL star player Peter Burns. The scope of the book does cover all states, mainly at major league level, but most prominence is given to the game’s history in Melbourne. The folio size of this book ensures the many high quality images are beautifully presented. The sections by the historians are footnoted with references to sources, and there is a general index for the book overall.
