Graham Stark (1922–2013)

For most of its 200 pages this is a fairly standard biography of a nice guy comedy actor. If your idea of a biography is a tome that berates and belittles everyone with whom the great actor has come into contact, then leave this one out.
The nearest to bitterness comes when Graham Stark remembers the end of the Second World War. Stark had been abroad and returned to Blighty on a luxury liner: sounds good until you hear that, whilst the officers enjoyed the use of the cabins and the passenger decks, the other ranks were relegated to the cargo holds below the water line.
Stark relates his tale in a modest fashion, more likely to thank 'good luck' or someone else's inspiration than to blow his own trumpet. The book is lavishly illustrated by Stark's own photographs of the stars with whom he rubbed shoulders (Stark was also a respected photographer).… (meer)
