The Letters of Jane (Craddick) Arnold: Exploring Her… door Lee Swetnika
A book I made composed of letters mostly from my mother, but some are from other family members as well, including some comment from me.
These are the letters saved by my mother and grandmother from Marrs A. Craddick. They begin when he leaves home to attend university at Cal Berkeley and show the bumpy and twisty ways he took until he found his vocation as a trial attorney. I have compiled them along with other letters from family and a few from friends, using photos of family, objects, movies and books mentioned to illuminate the times he was living in.
This is a collection of the letters my grandparents wrote to one another in the year and a half before they were married. They lived in California, one in Le Grand, the other in Oroville. The letters cover the time period between 1925-1927, with a few later letters added in for interest sake. I have done my best to add notes of the books, movies, places and events mentioned, but other than that, it is their words.
The interest lies in the hopes, dreams and expectations of two young people. At times they are naïve, arrogant, hopelessly romantic but they are also practical, funny, hopeful, philosophical dreamers. In other words, like most people in their early adult years. It has been my pleasure to read these letters not only from a family history point of view, but also as a picture of the 1920s in California. I am forever grateful that grandma preserved these letters for us.… (meer)
