I hate rating memoirs. I'm not giving a rating to her experiences. She obviously went through a lot. I am more rating the overall writing and presentation which I felt to be subpar. I can forgive the poor writing. The author isn't a "writer". My issue mainly lays with how this book is being presented to its audience. I mean, who is the audience? The book was presented like a comedic take on a serious subject, from the jacket, to the delivery and the instances of comedic tone that didnt work and just fell...like a stale loaf of bread. The subject matter was another thing entirely and mixing the two created an oil and water narrative.

Try to be cute- try to be witty-wait this is serious-throw in pun-throw in joke-super serious-diary of events-joke-dramatic ending. What??

The subject matter itself was at times jaw dropping, often unnerving, and mostly just painful to listen to or comprehend. (Not being able to see the Forrest for the well toned and outwardly expensive looking trees in the foreground, and all). Reading this book I could hear that saying by Maya Angelou about believing someone the first time they show you who they are.… (meer)
