"I've thrown in some bulbs that give color in the spring before the trees leaf out. For late spring through fall, its's the combination of foliage texture and flowers that's so beautiful. Think of the smooth large leaves & golden spikes of rocket ligularia contracted with delicate, feathery, white or pink plumed astilbes.
