I received a free copy of this book through the members giveaway in exchange for my honest opinion.
I am grateful to have read the author's first hand account of his 10 months as a host of a foreign exchange student. Our family has hosted a young man from Russia many years ago and I can relate to many of the things that happened during the young lady's stay in the USA.
My main reason for "downgrading" the book from 4 or 5 stars is the lack of grammar checking throughout the book.... there are free apps for that! (Example: queue for cue, barn fire for bonfire, needle for needed, etc.)… (meer)

A Tajik Girl by Mark Tilchen is an inspirational true story of a family who hosted a girl from former Soviet Republic Tajikistan in a sort of exchange student type program. It gives some great insight into that culture, which I hadn’t been familiar with before. It has a great story that centers on Shahlo’s determination to reach her goals. There is also the story of how she impacts this American family. This is a nicely written book that clearly is a labor of love for the writer and his subject that had a big impact on his life. Tajik Girl is a tender true story of a hardworking, studious and ambitious young girl raised in a country where most girls do not attend College and are expected to marry young. The book explores her culture, and culture norms as well as her dreams, and ambitions beautifully woven with the author's own story of how this exchange student changed his family . This is an eye opening firsthand account that will impact your heartstrings.
