B. Traven

I did not care for this book or B. Traven's plain writing style which seemed to oscillate between bland and whimsical. The only story I liked somewhat better than the rest was Friendship, sad stories about dogs usually get to me. The setting of central Mexico was a new one for me and that I liked. I got interested in this writer after watching that old Bogart gem The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and watching a featurette on the mystery of B. Traven's identity. After reading this collection of stories I do not get the fascination with this writer at all then or now, loved the movie though. I cannot really recommend this book unless you need something light and airy with a theme or two flowing underneath the whimsy to read.… (meer)
