This was an eye-opening account of a movement that I only became aware of because of Malcolm X’s assassination. Tsoukalis recounts the historical roots and the rise of this cult that actually had its beginnings in the 19th century and describes how it has given many blacks a sense of identity and purpose. He gives a detailed account of what they believe and how it has given its adherents an identity and a sense of purpose. In addition he compares their theology with that of the Islam religion of Middle East and with Christianity. He ends with an examination of how Louis Farrakhan is adapting this movement in the 21st century.… (meer)
