Far Out Fairy Tales: Five Full-Color Graphic Novels door Joey Comeau

This is a graphic novel that reworks some well known fairytales. There are five tales in all, Cinderella, Snow White, Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. I really enjoyed some, but others were just okay.
In Ninjarella, Cinderella wants to become a body guard for the prince. She still has the stepmother and stepsisters as well as a ninja godmother, but that is where the similarities end. This story will be a hit with those who really want young girls to be true to themselves and give up on the prince will save you story. Snow White and the seven robots shares the same message. What child does not love zombies these days. They will enjoy the twist on Hansel and Gretel and the zombies where the children do not want candy, they want brains. The 3 Billy goats get caught in a video game and have to defeat the monster at the end and Red Riding Hood gets super powers from her cape that she acquires in Area 54 while touring with President Grandma.
At the beginning of each story they introduced the characters and at the end they included a list of the major plot points that were changed from the original story as well as a little history of the original. This book is geared to children and I can guarantee they will be entertained, especially if they already are familiar with the classics. We all know kids these days get bored very quickly so it's always nice to offer them a new and exciting thing which is also short and entertaining. The stories are written by various authors and illustrated by different artists. They are colourful, detailed and will definitely attract the attention. A great book to add to school, home and classroom libraries for children ages 7 to 12.

The Flash book takes place on New Year’s Eve and also around the world.
The Clock King is on a rampage. He has something called a Time Bomb that stops all digital clocks and that includes things like computers and other things that run on electronic clocks. (Actually this plot was a little terrifying).

The story starts in Iron Heights jail when the villain shade escapes. Meanwhile Kid Flash (in this case Bart Allen) and Flash are racing each other while Barry teaches Bart how to be a speedster hero.
But Shade wants revenge on the Flash and then Kid Flash goes after him, causing the Flash to get sucked into Shade's top hat and that means that Kid Flash has to figure out alone how to defeat Shade.
It was a cool story. A cautionary tale about running in too fast, but, also about how you can learn and get better too.… (meer)
