I didn't technically read all of this because it's just a collection of ghost tales around London, much like any ghost show you could watch but in written form. It's also very dated, so a lot of these places aren't at all like how they're described here any more. I read it hopeing to add things to my to-do list when visiting London this year but didn't realise it was written so long ago, so it was unhelpful in that aspect. Also, the writer seems to be even more of a sceptic than I am, so some of the people they interview or the stories they told are re-told here with a very sarcastic air or, as in one notable case, completely debunked by the author in the last few pages. This is definitely not a book to read for those looking for a good scary story, but is almost academic. It would definitely have had more impact in the early 1970s when originally published.

Good true hauntings from the President of the Ghost Society. Lots of photos.

Back Cover Blurb:
Devon, glorious Devon, is a land full of mystery and of ghostly lore and legend; a land where it seems there is a subtle link between this world and the next; where centuries do not matter and time, occasionally, stands still.
Here Peter Underwood, President of The Ghost Club Society, writes of the ghostly stories that pervade this lovely county.

An excellent book of haunted 236 sites in Britain, with only a large paragraph or so on most, but with a good description of what is supposed to happen and what has happened. The photographs in the centre are creepy, good quality black and white. For anyone interested in the locations of the greatest haunted places in Britain, this is a top book - and if you want more detail you can find it elsewhere after sussing it out in this. Would make a good haunted tour guide to Britain if it had a map.

Interesting book. I've had a lifelong love of ghost stories, so this is right up my alley. Of course, they're not nearly as scary as I found them in my youth, but they're still an enjoyable distraction.

As the title suggests this is all about the haunted places in and around London. There appears to be many of them - I wish I had the time to go around some of them. Good book if you are interested in the subject and live in London.

This is about real ghost stories all over the British Isles. Underwood is or was president of the Ghost Society and has written many books on the subject. Enjoyed the book because I enjoy the subject.

Being a big ghost story buff I really enjoyed reading about the ghosts that are supposed to haunt my county. By all accounts there are quite a few! All real stories.

This book, like its brothers and sisters across the country, is a wonderful guide to the local history and sites of special interest.
