The life of Maso is very interesting and the author does cover his enter nine decades in this text. We learn why his family immigrated to the USA and his education. This background helps to understand his situation once in the W.W II era army and his time in the Pacific Theater of War. When Maso speaks of his war time experiences they come alive to the reader. The bravery of these Japanese American soldiers is amazing. Their own families in the USA are in internment camps, they have nothing to return to after the war like other soldiers and the enemy may be a friend.
On top of the normal war time stress of serving on the front lines of a combat unit that faces fierce opposition. Maso also had to worry if he would be shot by his own troops. Even so Maso, like the other Japanese Americans, in both theaters of war proved their loyalty and did their duty to the USA.… (meer)
