4280 After the Madness A Judge's Own Prison Memoir, by Sol Wachtler (read 25 Feb 2007) The author was Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, New York's highest court, when he got into an adulterous affair with a younger woman and did stupid things and was sentenced to prison. This book is full of interest, and makes out a pretty good case for showing that his stupidity was due to mental illness. He complains a lot about his treatment in prison, which was hard for him to endure, accustomed as he was to deference from nearly everybody before he was arrested and sent to prison. He certainly paid a heavy price for his idiotic and sinful behavior.… (meer)
