An entertaining canter across the broad history of the giallo with talking head interviews with some key protagonists such as Dario Argento, Umberto Lenzi, Luigi Cozzi and Ruggero Deodato, Lenzi, Cozzi and Deodato, to a greater or lesser extent, come across as dismissive and slightly bitter about the genre whereas Argento is surprisingly talkative and entertaining. The film is unfortunately overly focussed on Argento. Yes, Argento is a key figure (perhaps the key figure) in the giallo, but the over-concentration on him decontextualized some of the story and thereby downplayed the massive contribution of other directors and the brilliance of many other films. Richard Stanley, Alan Jones, Maitland McDonagh and Kim Newman provide commentary and insight.
