Manfred Weidhorn

This book is difficult to rate since there is nothing mediocre about the book. It is both brilliant and ignorant, and never at the same time. It is ultimately flawed because of the assumptions Weidhorn makes. He can only justify his choice of person of the millennium (and all time, we read toward the end) by assuming that Galileo's changes were the most important in history. This is really begging the question and has no place in such a book. Weidhorn's comments about religion (and especially Martin Luther) are ignorant and misleading, which especially bothered me. At the same time, some of his observations are quite inspired, and I learned much from them.… (meer)
