This is an ok book.
Sergeant Mel Daley from the Herefordshire police.
A woman called Leah has been reported missing by her Husband Chris on the way to Wales at a Service station near the Border. They are en route to their isolated cottage.
The Police believe Chris is a bit dodgy. He is evasive and keeps lying to them. The Police dig deeper and look into Chris job he has been made redundant, try and contact his ex wife Linda and his 3 previous Children no luck. They speak to Chris's sister and the man Linda left Chris for.
A young teenage girl was getting Maths lessons from Chris which raises alarm bells.

The Police look at the Cottage more closely there is electricity running and they turn up a hidden room.
They also dig in the grounds of the Cottage find Linda's body and the 3 Children.
Still no sign of Leah.
Mel gets transferred to Norfolk where she is originally from she still keeps an eye on Leah's case.
It turns out Leah ran away to Ireland and is living in secret.
Chris is jailed for Murder and wont be getting out any time soon.… (meer)

Three and a half star rating.
A loving couple en route to their Welsh holiday home stop for coffee and then Leah just vanishes into thin air, leaving her husband distraught. The police soon discover all is not as it seems. This is a well written story - a quick read with plenty to hold anyone's interest plus an enticing cover. Not normally too keen on so much police procedure in a book, but it seems to work here. The ending was abrupt and not that much of a surprise, leaving some unanswered questions so maybe there will be a follow up? The leading female detective shows a particularly unpleasant side to her character. I enjoyed the book and would definitely read others by this author.… (meer)

Chris' wife Leah goes missing on the way to their vacation cottage and though clearly panicked, things aren't adding up to the police. As the days pass, more and more details emerge that point to Chris as a suspect and the growing certainty that when they do find her, it will be as a corpse.

Controlling, deviant and frightening even to his sister when angered, details emerge about Chris' past and present that are disturbing and only support the running theory that they are not looking for Leah but her body. Chris sticks to his story throughout and the few people that knew her are of little help as it becomes clear that he kept Leah on a tight leash and that she was tight-lipped about her life.

There are surprises along the way: the vacation cottage? A run-down, dreary place. The house? Spotless and impersonal. But the garage? A riot of color and artwork that belies Leah's lack of personality in her daily life. Things at Chris' job are not what they appear and Leah turns out to be far more resourceful and capable than her husband gives her credit for.… (meer)
