NCLA Review -What is God’s destiny for you? This is the question that White answers by drawing parallels between Joseph’s walk with God and that of his present day reader. In eighteen chapters he presents signposts which lay out the path. Some random examples are: Remember, It’s Who You Know; Expect God to Surprise You—Watch Him Work; Put Feet on Your Plans—Be a Doer; and Always Give Grace. The carefully constructed and thought provoking Questions for Reflection at the end of each chapter would be an asset for either a class or individuals who wish to enrich their faith journeys by exploring the numerous choices along the way as they attempt to serve God. An added bonus is a list of Scriptures at the end of the book for each chapter. The material is not unique or new, but the approach is both. Rating: 3.5 —AMB… (meer)

I re-read this book over the course of several months while I TA'd for my father's Ethics class (he couldn't find anyone else to do it!)... I took the class 7 or 8 years ago, so the book was a little hazy in my memory (not a surprise) but it was great to read it again.

Honestly, I'd recommend White's book to anyone who considers themselves a 'Christian'. My father has been using this book since he began teaching Ethics, and the book has gone through a number of re-printings and updates, so it's clear that it's a rather significant tome.

White addresses everything from honesty in relationships and the workplace, to what it means to run a business with integrity, to the dilemma of the selection of church leadership... social ethics... spiritual ethics... sexual ethics... you name it, this book will challenge you and make you seriously think about what it means to live what you believe.

I honestly don't believe you can read this book and come away unchanged in some way -- simply because it will force you to think about and evaluate yourself, your relationships with others, and how you live and act on a daily basis. Your conscience will be challenged, and you will learn what it means to truly live a life of honesty and integrity.

Even on this re-read, I was challenged and found areas of myself that I need to work on -- for the better.

This is an excellent, very necessary resource for anyone who considers themselves Christian.

The Joseph Road
by Jerry White
NavPress Publishers, 2010

Jerry White tells the biblical story of Joseph and his journey in Egypt; all this compared with the nowadays ordinary life people. Joseph's life is a fight between dreams (always they say the future) and destiny (with God's sign).

Style: the book's narrative is easy to follow as White is a popular speaker and keeps your attention high all through the book.

The Joseph's story is interspersed with the events of White's personal life; usually I don't like authors talking about personal failure or success, White this time has changed my mind: he tells his story without pride or recrimination, following, as Joseph, his own path because already marked, although not all the dreams become reality.

The Joseph Road is also fun when White reports excerpts from the Egyptian Gazette (maybe from Jerry's personal library).

Reflection questions at the end of each chapter helps you to bring this book again and again.

I received this book free from NavPress Publishers as part of their Blogger Review Program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guide Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."
