A delightfully thorough and detailed account of what life was like during Jane Austen’s time. References come largely from contemporary accounts, including examples Jane Austen’s writings.

My interest in all of the details is modest enough that it did get tedious. Yet, I wouldn’t change the book because it is nice to have such a thorough treatment showing what life was like then.

Covers the sedition, sometimes caused by poverty, sometimes political awareness, clearly as well as the role of spies.
