Coming of age book; Every year Tamara's family moves, criss-crossing the country, with only what fits in a trailer - most of which is her Dad's painting supplies. Now 15 in the 1950's, they move to a rural house in New York across from a tar paper house. The neighbors upset her aetheist parents by inviting her to church. In the attic (and in her bedroom), there's the ghost of the 16yo boy who died of cancer. Then her mother gets sent to a sanitarioum for TB, and Tamara puts her foot down about moving...yet again...for her father's muse/change of scenery for his paintings. Very good developed characters… (meer)

A story of an angry 15 year old who is NEVER happy... unless she's letting Rusty the red-haired Baptist neighbor feel her up in the fort. Good times?!?!?

The premise of this book was much better than the book itself, though I did appreciate the part where she was trying to explain to her dad that she needed feminine supplies- however, I was irritated she wasn't more resourceful- her dad told her something along the lines of "Everything will be okay". She responded with something like, "Easy for him to say. He wasn't the one with blood dripping down his leg." Isn't that exactly how that moment feels?… (meer)

One night in Cleveland, a wrong number connects a middle-aged interpreter for the deaf to a little black girl who has been alone for hours in an apartment. The woman applies for and obtains the position of foster mother for Larissa. An intriguing portait of the process of taking care of a child traumatized by being wrenched from familiar surroundings. More compelling still is the relationship between Alice, the foster mother, and Michelle, the biological mother. This is a clash of women from two different worlds. An excellent read.… (meer)

A great coming of age story about a young girl on the edge of womanhood who must put up with her out of touch artist father, beautiful but ill mother who constantly move the family for better inspiration for the fathers painting. Tamara just wants to stay put and grow up as normally as possible but with a family like the one she has - it proves to be difficult. Sweet, funny, sad... recommended.
