Only thing this is missing are women's daggers, which I'm sure existed. This is a book of two parts, daggers in the first part with swords and spears in the second. I'm still not certain where shortswords and long daggers divide but otherwise this is a comprehensive index to blades of all sort from many countries with comprehensive illustration but a little too much "it appears" to give it the full 5 stars, that and the missing women.

Interesting book to read, although there were times the fact that these were weapons and killed people hit me and I had to walk away for a while. It felt like the times I was in the Museé de l'Armée or others like it where the distinctions between the different weapons started to blur and become one long list of similar things.

Invaluable for writers looking to describe swords in an era or trying to build a list of weapons for a society. Should be compulsory for most fantasy writers.
