I want to start by saying that this book definitely has an intended audience in mind. It reads very YA in language and dialogue. Most of the issues are also very YA. It addresses things like first love, family issues, and even bullying. However, at the center is this story of Cat learning who she is and accepting that she is a lesbian. It is an incredibly cute and funny story. I think this is one of those books where the intended age group would immediately connect with at least one aspect of the story. The characters are actually incredibly diverse and the writer has a fun writing style. I think it was cute that she used little things at the end of some chapters-like text messages, poems, emails and things like that to add another element to the story. I really thought the story was cute and it definitely has the humor element down. As an adult sometimes it was hard for me to relate to the 14 year old girl but I think the author has created a story that is perfect for someone also struggling with their identity. It’s a marvelously inclusive story. I think the humor makes it a lighthearted read even though it’s a serious subject. I enjoyed watching Cat come to accept herself and work through her first crush. The zodiac dynamic was humorous. I think this one was a nice change of pace for me!… (meer)
