Why Do Buses Come in Threes?: The Hidden Maths of… door Rob Eastaway
Rather light book, kind of the maths equivalent of cracker jokes. Fails to acknowledge sources. The best part of the book is the Further Reading section, I'd recommend skipping straight those.
This reads a lot like Horrible Histories but for maths and aimed at an older audience.
I know what I'm going to say is an odd sort of complaint, but I could have done with more book. What there is is gold, but I think they could have gone further into the maths without losing their audience.
That being said I appreciate the practical ways they suggest that a reader can do to to prove the maths in the book and the links to papers which go further into the maths.

How long is a piece of string?
is the follow up to Why do buses come in threes? , which I also read recently and enjoyed. This book like the first one was really interesting, dealing with more subjects I'd never really given a thought.
It presents maths in a (most of the time) easy and understandable way, without patronizing the readers. Some subjects are, of course, more interesting than others. But they will give you some new things to talk about at dinner/ a party =) Because, exactly how long is a piece of string?… (meer)

Come to think about it; Why do buses come in threes? Except, they don't. Buses usually come in twos. Read this book and you might just find out why this makes you won't have to wait as long for your next bus...
This book features some interesting question, like how to cut a cake in 8 with only three cuts, and exactly how rare are two children in one class sharing a birthday?
It doesn't matter if you're interested in (reconnecting with) maths, or just want to know some facts to impress your friends, you'll find this book interesting to read. At least, it worked for me. :)… (meer)
