Korte biografie
About me? Well I grew up in the UK, but was born in Gothenburg, Sweden. My childhood influences were a mix of Pippi Longstocking and The Flumps. I have always enjoyed making up characters and their life stories, therefore I jumped at the chance to study theatre at the University of Brighton. I later trained as a drama teacher and I have a Master's degree from Goldsmiths. I have gone back to my roots and I now live in Gothenburg, where I am writing the Delilah Dusticle series. People have told me they love reading my stories and I hope you have fun reading them too!

Things I like? Swedish cinnamon buns, yoga, tea, salt liquorice, sleeping on boats, compassion and other people's creativity. Things I do not like? Okra. The vegetable is also known as ladies fingers, which makes them even less appetising to me. Blah!

This is a great story to read aloud with your children, grandchildren etc. Each chapter starts with an illustration to peak the interest for the upcoming chapter. I like that you can use your imagination to picture the rest of the story. It is an old story of toys/ornaments that come to life, when the humans are not around. The idea of being "left behind" as the children grow up and the family changes is not new, but the ending is wonderful.

Tallulah is a Christmas Fairy tree-topper. Shortly after she is made, she is put in a box and sent somewhere. When she is opened up, she is placed at the top of the tree. She loves seeing everything, and when she sees the shooting star, she realizes that she and the other Christmas decorations are alive. As we meet all the other decorations and ornaments we hear the story about how they are brought out every year and then returned to the attic when Christmas is over. This might seem sad, but it really isn't. In the attic we meet all the decorations for all the holidays including the Easter (Bunny) and Halloween (Skelly and Witch) decorations, who are all able to share stories with one another. As the years go by, the children grow up and move out. Boxes appear in the attic containing the toys the children used to play with. One day, some things are taken to the "jumble sale" and the decorations are worried they might be taken away and never come back. One year, there is no decorating and the house seems quiet as if nobody is home. Confused by the fact that it’s Christmas and they are still in the attic the decorations decide to take matters into their own hands. What happens next is a Christmas Miracle that you are sure to love.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

A Fairy Extraordinary Christmas Story is a magical tale about holiday decorations come to life and how they experience the holidays. The book was very short but I think young readers will really enjoy it.

The story itself is whimsical and creative and I have always loved the idea of toys coming to life, so why not decorations? This was a creative adaptation to a commonly told tale and it was adorable. York does a great job weaving the holidays together and the decorations all seem so cute and fun.

Although it is short the story was a wonderful one about being together and celebrating. I think that any parent would agree it is a wonderful Christmas story to add to the collection.

In a tale of dreams and vision, brownies, fairies and… dust, Delilah Dusticle and the Cursed Tempest sees our house-cleaning hero Delilah flying to India to rescue a beautiful girl, sister to one of her friends. Of course, Delilah’s latest enemy rears her "Boring" head, and rescue is never as simple as it might seem, especially when, like Delilah, you stick to a rule of doing no harm.

Readers will be transported to another continent, given a quiet insight into different ways of life, and invited to ponder how an angry storm can be calmed if it carries the heart of a human who mustn’t be harmed? With clear writing, neat illustrations, and the usual fun cast of characters (especially the "Grumpy" one!) Cursed Tempest is a great next entry to A. J. York’s series, and carries the pleasing promise of more. Middle-grade readers may even end the tale trying to guess where the next one will be set.

Disclosure: I was given an ecopy and I offer my honest review.
