Vaca-Pena Los Putos Rancho and the Pena Adobe was available at the Vacaville Historical Museum when my parents visited it in 1985, the year I started working in Vacaville, California. I should have read this little book while I still lived there. The City of Vacaville and the surrounding area is much changed since it was one of the last Mexican land grants in California. When the Vaca and Pena families came to California in the early 1840s from New Mexico they received a grant of land from the Governor of the province. The grant was many square miles of land. The adobe house build by Native American workers was restored and is still standing in the same site which is now a Vacaville City park.… (meer)

This seems to have been written to go along with the opening of a California state Historical Monument and museum, the Vaca-Peña adobe in Vacaville, California. It is the history of how the original settling families came to the area, and of how the transition from Spanish/Mexican government to American government went for them (not great). There are some photos of the original settlers and the adobe, along with some of the details on how the adobe was built. Pretty short, nothing fanciful, but interesting. Not fascinating, mind you, interesting. At least to this Californian.… (meer)
