The small collection I think of as my 'traveling library' are the books I will happily read a million times. They travel with me and I only lend them to people if they are the kind of books I know I can find anywhere, easily. So like Gatsby or Age of Innocence. The John Wyndham's I will never lend out because they are first edition sexy penguins. As long as I have one Pat Barker and one Harry Potter at any given time, I know I'll be ok. The rest of my collection has been mooched (from Bookmooch) and, although I have discovered new favourites amongst them (like The Stand), for the most part I'm happy to read and send them on their way. In my tiny bookshelf, in my paper house, I like to keep a 50/50 ratio of read to unread. It seems to be optimum to maintain sanity...

Currently living in Japan. My collection is tiny! I have been in Japan for a year and will be here only one year longer. It was impossible to bring many books and seems silly to build a library now when I'll have to schlep them with me somewhere else.
