Penguin Books - Ionicus Covers

Hi everyone,
I have a small collection of PGW books issued by Penguin, with the colour ionicus illustrated covers.
Does anyone know how many titles were released in this series?
As I would like to complete the collection.

I can't help with numbers, I'm afraid, but I have 25 of the Ionicus covered PGW books. You can search for 'ionicus' as a tag in my library to see if I have any you don't. Good luck with your completion.

I checked your covers and with the information I have so far found - I have 46 ionicus covers I have located, so far.

I actually collect the same one's that you have collected, where the authors name is curved at the bottom and straight along the top, but I found images of about 7 or 8 that look like a later series, where they have changed the style of the name. So I am wondering if Penguin had a series of wodehouse books they published for the first time maybe in the late 80's/90's? As I haven't come across any earlier versions, with the curved authors name on the web.

I have just 20 books from the series, but would like to complete the set.
If anyone has any more info - I'd appreciate it.

According to this Telegraph obituary reproduced on Wodehouse.ru, Ionicus did 58 Wodehouse covers for Penguin. They don't say whether those were 58 different books, though. I don't have very many Ionicus covers myself.

The obituary in The Independent http://www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/obituary-ionicus-1142664.html indicated 50 covers. I have no idea which is correct. The UK National Archive indicates 58 covers as well.

Well the weekend passed in a flash as usual and I never got around to the list. Thanks for the information so I am looking at 50-58 Ionicus covers.

I have the hardback version of "Sunset over Blandings" with an Ionicus cover and wanted to ask if there were any other hardback versions with his work on them?

Perhaps we could help by posting lists of which Wodehouse books with Ionicus covers we have in our collections. Once enough information is in we can look at putting a master list together.

The two marked * are 11x18 cm with the title at the top and the author's name stretched into an arch (1970s??); the rest are 13x20cm with the title below the illustration and straight author's name above it (1980s, probably). All priced for the UK market.

I have re-scanned my Ionicus covers so there are rather crisper images available.

I like the arched ones. Oh dear. Another mini-collectomania to account for.

I have been trying to compile a list of all the ionicus covers with a view to collecting a complete set of the books. The entries on this site are proving extremely useful in this.

In doing this I believe I have found some additions to the list above

This provides pictures of the cover, which appears to be specially commissioned - I don't think they it has been lifted from some other book.

There are actually two anthologies called Life at Blandings

One contains Soemthing Fresh, Summer Lightning and Heavy Weather but uses the cover for Summer Lightning

The other has a special cover and contains 5 books - Full Moon, Galahad at Blandings, Heavy Weather, Uncle Fred in the Springtime and Leave it to Psmith

One small correction to the list - Indiscretions of Archie is called just that - not The Indiscretions of Archie
