Got a Suggestion for a good Horror Book? Anyone?

I love David Fisher book the pack (touchstone bringing up the wrong book) and of course Dean Koontz for example Watchers and Kelley Armstrong and a swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist but i have no idea if any books are translated yet..

If you want horror, maybe a bit twisted, I've read almost everything Bentley Little has written. I've also read all of Dean Koontz's work though I consider his most recent work more suspense than horror.

I second the Bentley Little recommendation. Especially The Ignored or The Revelation.

I just read a pretty good '80's horror story called Midsummer by Matthew Costello.

I never got into Dean Koontz myself. His writing gets on my nerves. I guess Intensity (touchstone bringing up the wrong book?) was okay...

Rosemary's baby by Ira Levin is a classic of the genre and as chilling a read as anyone could wish to get their mitts on.

And of course, what horror group would be complete without a discussion on Dracula by Bram Stoker?

Great tip, but I didn't find any translated books (to swedish) by Bentley Little :(

Any other suggestion?

Kindred Spirit by John Passarella is excellent, and I'm told his trilogy Wither, Wither's Rain, and Wither's Legacy are good, too, though I haven't read them.

My favorite horror novels, though, are the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. Absolutely unbelievable, and some of them--particularly Queen of the Damned and Memnoch the Devil--are scary as hell. (In the case of Memnoch, perhaps literally...)

The Keeper by Sarah Langan is pretty good, also you might try Off Season by Jack ketchum. But I agree Bentley Little is great.

No of the books are translated, such a bad luck...:-(

I recently discovered a fresh horror author, Scott Nicholson. He reminds me of a young Koontz or King, before they got so wordy and long in the tooth. This guy shows hunger towards the craft and his book, They Hunger, is one of the scariest things I've read in awhile. Packed with adventure as well. I highly recommend it, it's a real page turner.

Hey Lame,

I've bought all of Scott Nicholson's books since I enjoyed The Red Church so much. Thing is, he hasn't been able to match that one.

I did really groove on The Harvest, but didn't much like The Manor. Not sure why really. It's gotten such good reviews. I don't know. Maybe I should try it again.

Anyway, since I couldn't get into The Manor I skipped The Home (still bought it though) altogether.

I did read The Farm. It wasn't great, but I liked it better than The Manor.

They Hunger does look REALLY great and I guess I should give The Home a chance...

Hi'ya jseger9000,

I've only read They Hunger, but enjoyed it so much that now I'm interested in back-tracking my way through his career. I hadn't heard of him until he'd introduced himself to my Myspace account one day a couple of months back. I'm guessing he picked me off of another authors fan page while pimping his latest. I was really impressed with the book and I can't recommend it strongly enough. If you've liked his other works you really should give this one a shot. It's an easy faced paced read with a different take on vampires that'll just blow you away. At the very least it'll make you rethink nature hikes. ;)

Lame,

Don't know if you'll ever read this, but if you're going to read Scott Nicholson's other books, start with The Red Church and The Harvest. They are his fist two books and impressed me enough to keep buying his new stuff.

Try House of Leaves. Its a very unusual genre busting work--part horror, part collage, part frustrating slog-through. But you might find it hypnotic--I did.

If you like blood and gore, go with Richard Laymon. For the genre (B-movie type horror) they are great fun.

"One Rainy Night" is a good book by Richard Laymon, you may also want to try "The Traveling Vampire Show" by the same author.

If you havent read "Boy's Life" by Robert McCammon, I highly recommend it.

Mercury - de Brus by C.E. Scott. A new writer. Amazon.com ebook. Oh and BTW, it's not a vamp book! It's so hard to find a good book that isn't about vamps in the horror section.

May I suggest some British horror authors, James Herbert and possibly Shaun Hutson, and an Irish born author that lives in Maine John Connolly. Some great horror writers, with some twisted minds full of imagination.

I just finished the exorcist by William Peter Blatty. Very scary, and convincing incorporates catholic/jesuit doctrine and theology. I highly recommend it.

What Happened to Tom, by Christopher Taffen.

An allegorical horror story.
A psychological/philosophical thriller.
A must-read for every man.
