Today's Kindle Daily Deal is a very good one - 26 non-fiction books, each priced less than $3. There are some really good ones in there like The Worst Hard Time and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. I picked up Spain in Our Hearts by Adam Hochschild for just $2.99.

The Audible Daily Deal is The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham and narrated by Kate Reading, who does a fabulous job, for just $2.95. I listened to this audiobook last year and really loved it. I don't know if the daily deal is available to members only or if it is available to anyone, but that's a great deal.

The free ebook at University of Chicago Press this month is Walden Warming: Climate Change Comes to Thoreau’s Woods by Richard B. Primack.

Apparently Thoreau left a huge mass of notebooks with detailed observations of what happened when in Walden woods - and Primack got access to them, and compared current observations of ice breakup, bloom time of specific types of plants, the return of migratory birds, etc. Looks interesting.
