About people called "creatures"?

I read it as a teenager. It was about world with two types of people- one had more intelligence, clouds of pale gold hair, no facial hair, and thought chess was a stupid game. The other was normal human beings. I think in the story one of the more-advanced people was living in disguise with the normal humans, and at one point they drew a picture of a rabbit in the dirt, because he'd never eaten animal flesh before. For some reason that scene stuck in my head. Anyone know what it is? I think the author's name started with a letter from the middle of the alphabet, because I remember what section of the shelves it was on at the library I went to as a kid. YA fiction...

Sounds familiar. If I haven't read it I'd like to. Almost like an Aldous Huxley Brave New World or a Lois Lowry The Giver.

It's not either of those--I know them both well--but I don't know what it is. Sorry.

I think your book is actually called "The Creatures" and it's by John Rowe Townsend.

Edit: This book is also known by the name King Creature, Come, and while there is not a lot of info about it on Librarything, here's a link to the Amazon page for it.

Weener, that's it! Wow, I totally forgot I'd asked about this book, it's been so long since I made the post. Thank you!
