I just began reading it. Not what I had expected from a book about imprisonment. A lot more humor. I am at the same time listening on audio to Orwell's Homage to Catalonia and they have quite a bit in common. Hope I don't get them confused!
I should also warn anybody else thinking of joining this group read: if you do not know at least some French, you are going to find this book incredibly frustrating. Cummings assumes that your colloquial French is serviceable, frequently reporting lines of dialogue in that language. It's fine for me, but I remember another book on the list that had quite a bit of Spanish and I was really stuck, and not happy.
