Parts of the site are very slow (actually unreachable) today

When I try to go to the Flagged image gallery, I keep getting a Time Out, though I can quickly get to "Recent Members", "Recent Authors", and "Recent Venues".

I also cannot get to the Helpers Log. "Zeitgeist > Helpers" comes up fine, but not the log.

>1 lilithcat: I haven't gotten any timeouts but it's definitely loading quite slowly in the past 18-24 hours. Even just loading Talk has a noticeable lag.

Pages that are slow to load, bouncing around at the moment:

I'm seeing lags on several pages, including talk.

We're investigating, thanks for your patience!

Someone must have kicked the server or something, because I see a definite improvement.

I won't close the bug yet, though; I'll wait for staff to do that.

Okay, I think the thing we did (stopped a large process) is what fixed it. Closing for now, but please reopen if it crops back up.

Litsy Gateway 504 timing out again.

>9 majkia: Is it still happening for you? If so, are you seeing this on the website or the app? Are you trying to do certain actions, or is it just not loading at all?

Any progress on this? I have been having an awful time today. When I try to move from one page to another, it often won't load and I get a blank page or it just leaves me on the page I was navigating from.

This has been going on for quite some time, and makes the site very difficult to use.

For the record I'm not seeing this at all. The site is quick and responsive.

>12 lilithcat: could you be a bit more precise? It is better to point to a couple of specific pages rather then say "from one page to another,".
Similar with "has been going on for quite some time". Is this minutes, hours, days, weeks or months? (And I'm not trying to pester you, just trying to get a more useful bug report.)

>12 lilithcat: To reiterate what >13 bnielsen: said, can you tell me if you always experience slowness on LibraryThing, or only sometimes? If sometimes, do you see slowness at particular times of days or particular days of the week more than others?

Regarding your issue of navigating from page to page, are you seeing this on all kinds of pages, or do you only use a few, or only see the issue on a few pages (if so, which pages exactly)?

It's pretty random.

Yesterday, I had no problem.

I'll keep an eye on it and try to give you more specifics.

Okay - just now (8:00 a.m CDT), I split the author Patrick Morley and was trying to alias Patrick Morley(1) to Patrick M. Morley. I got the "lot of thinking going on" etc., and then the page stopped loading. Tried to get to the Talk page to post that info here, and got a blank page. Went back to try the aliasing again and after two tries, it worked and brought me to the correct page.

ETA: 10:45 a.m. CDT Tried to reach the Talk page from my bookmark, got a blank page, refreshing got me to the correct place.

>16 lilithcat: This is great information. Let's keep tracking a few more things, if you can, and I'll try to test certain things at random times to see if we can find any patterns.

For your bookmark to Talk, can you copy and paste that full URL of your bookmark here? I want to see if it's in HTTP or some other format, just to be sure I'm using the same page.

>17 kristilabrie: If it helps, I also had no problems with the site being slow in a long time. IIRC, both bnielsen and me are in Europe, so perhaps only some servers are struggling occasionally.

If anything, I've been having less trouble than usual lately, but I'm Europe, too.

>18 SandraArdnas: Yes, I'm in Europe. Denmark to be more precise :-)

>19 kristilabrie: I noticed that fetching a page using "curl" or "wget" now (since this weekend?) requires me to lie and have them report being Netscape rather than themselves. Not a big deal for me, but also probably not a method that will fool the bots for long. And thanks for your hard work keeping the site safe and running.

That's actually a different problem. See this thread: https://www.librarything.com/topic/358874
