New Murakami Translation

I know a lot of you are Murakami fans. It looks like on Dec, 10, 2024, there will be a new translation of "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" by Jay Rubin. Rubin has done a lot of Murakami translations, but not "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World." You can check by searching on amazon or going to the everyman's contemporary classics site.

How curious! Only today I scrolled past the Waterstones link to the Vintage release, I'll see if I can't hunt it out.

Edit: scheduled for August '24 release by Vintage, and yes, did not pay enough attention to: "A new, unabridged translation from Jay Rubin."

I guess flipping the title around will make it easy to distinguish between translations

I just checked the Wikipedia page for "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" and it seems that in the Japanese title "End of the World" comes first. You don't need to know Japanese to see this. The phonetic spelling of the Japanese makes "Hard-Boiled Wonderland" pretty easy to decipher. I was looking at the Wikipedia page to see if it says anything about the current translation being abridged, but it doesn't. So, according to the Waterstones website this could be a very faithful translation in that the title is in the correct order as the Japanese and potentially having more content than the Birnbaum translation. The Wikipedia page does state that Rubin considers this to be his favorite Murakami novel.
