Found: YA, multiple perspectives, fantasy/spec fic, trying to find something?

Trying to find a book I read probably 15 years ago - I think the cover was gold and black but I don’t remember well. It was about a bunch of people trying to find some special object - a ring, a box, idk. Each perspective was from a different ancient family who had been hunting this object for a long time (centuries??). I think it was a series, but I only read the first. This has been haunting me for years!

Possibly the Endgame series. First book is The Calling by James Frey.
