YA teen girl meets young married couple who live in a trailer next door

I read this book in the 1980s. The girl had long "heavy" red curls and she gets it cut at the end of the book and loses weight.
A young couple moves into a trailer by her house and she befriends them. But then has an awkward moment with the male.
