Fairytales with a twist

Thought it might be good to have separate thread for fairy tales with a twist rather than fairy tales retold so they don't get jumbled up. Please add your recommendations here. Those I've really enjoyed are:

I like the sisters grimm series too.

My new favourite book is In the Night Garden by Catherynne M Valente. It plays around with lots of different fairytale charaters and themes.

Troll Bridge: A Rock'n' Roll Fairy Tale by Jane Yolen is also great, it's billy goats gruff mixed with the 12 dancing princesses.

The ellen datlow series of anthologies is also great, starting with snow white, blood red.

Finally How to Spin Gold: A Woman's Tale by Elizabeth Cunningham is interesting, where rumplestiltskin is a woman.

Particularly like the sound of In the Night Garden and Snow White, Blood Red, but have added them all to my library. Am about to start the fourth Sisters Grimm book after the one I'm reading. Have you read them all, Rubbah?

I've read up to tales from the hood which is the sixth and the latest one. I'm not sure whent he next one, the everafter war comesout but I will definitely be buying it.

I haven't read it yet, but The Stepsister Scheme by Jim C. Hines has a sorta "Charlie's Angels" take on the princesses (Cinderwench, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty). It's the first in the series. I've heard good things about it and plan on reading it soon.

Pay the Piper (another book in Jane Yolen's Rock 'n' Roll Fairy Tale series) was fun.

Have added both of those as well so hopefully my local library will have them. They sound really good.

I don't know if you've read any of the fablehaven series but they're also really good.
Another old favourite is poison by chris wooding.

If you're interested in comics at all, Fables is a good series.

Fablehaven was the last book I read last year, which was a good way to end it because it was a introduced me to a wonderful new series (always exciting). Have the second one out of the library now so will read it over the next couple of weeks. Have Poison on my must reads list as as well. You have good taste, Rubbah. ;)

I started with the first collected volume Legends in Exile. I've only read the first three collections so far (Animal Farm and Storybook Love are the next two) and have really enjoyed them so far. I particularly enjoy its version of the Big Bad Wolf. I have developed a sort of crush on him and on Rose Red. :-)

Have added the first one to my library to see how I feel about reading it in comic format first and because I'm not sure if my library will stock that format, but hopefully they will. It's a pretty good library. Am always on the lookout for unique stories/formats so am looking forward to reading this. Thanks for the recommendation. :)

I think that Fables gets better as it goes along. The first two volumes are necessary for the introduction to the series, but Storybook Love has so far been my favorite.

Princess Ben by Catherine Gilbert Murdock is a fun YA story that references a lot of fairy tales, as is Runaway Princess by Kate Coombs, and Ivy's ever after by Dawn Lairamore - actually there seem to be quite a few fairy tale-esq books aimed at the younger end of the YA market around at the moment!
