Hmmm, Kokoro has been sitting around on my Kindle for a while. Perhaps now is the time to read it especially since I seem stuck in "psychological study" novels at the moment. Unfortunately, I am ready for a rippingly good yarn full of sound and fury signifying nothing. I want to hang out with the literary low life and eat junk food. I think I may be coming down with a bibliomanical disease.

Plenty of low lifes around, not to mention junk food.
Maybe Now Dig This: The Unspeakable Writings of Terry Southern? (It's on my TBR pile.) I'm sure TS is bound to throw in a bevy of low lifes. Or how about Candy if you want junk food, high quality junk food? Is that an oxymoron?

Three Drops of Blood by Sadeq Hedayat
13 short story selections from 3 volumes: Three Drops of Blood, Stray Dog and Buried Alive. The title stories Three Drops of Blood and Buried Alive most closely resemble Hedayat's Blind Owl. Both are strange, dream-like, nightmarish stories about madness. Highly recommended.

Candy? Definitely junk food - old, classic junk food at that! Takes me back.

Three Drops of Blood sounds interesting; I've added that to my wish list.

Red-Dirt Marijuana by Terry Southern.
Satirical, off-beat short stories, essays, interviews. Highly recommended.

Terry Southern wrote the screenplay adaptation of The Loved One by Evelyn Waugh as well.

"As TS began working on the MGM movie The Loved One he wanted Lenny Bruce to appear as the grotesque, drunken "Dear Abby" columnist Guru Brahmin." Too bad it didn't work out! Lenny would've been in his element.

Wow! That would have made the film even better, which is difficult to imagine.

The Passion of Women (Women in Evidence) by Sebastien Japrisot (A Very Long Engagement), a rashomon-like mystery, told from the first-person by eight women who fall in love with the protagonist. Truth and morality are relative. Interesting structure with sarcastic, humorous monologues. Highly recommended.

Dirt Music by Tim Winton. Interesting psycho-drama set in western australia. Some reservations with the ending.

Just came across an interview with Amir Valle
author of Habana Babilonia, exiled cuban novelist. Exiled because he
writes about prostitution, criminals, corruption. No sign of any english translations. Tell me it ain't so!
