He was widely acknowledged as an author, biblical scholar, and translator of the highest order; a professor who challenged students’ thinking in the halls of Harvard Divinity School, Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges, and Pendle Hill; and the consummate Quaker activist. His activism was expressed principally through the American Friends Service Committee. Cadbury was a translator of the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, founder of the American Friends Service Committee, key figure in the growth of Harvard Divinity School into academic prominence, and one of the founders of Friends Meeting at Cambridge, Massachusetts.
