Reading the script after seeing the play is always interesting. This is a very ambitious undertaking - to turn the entirety of the story of the Morte d'Arthur into a single evening's drama - albeit one that lasts three and a half hours. The beginning feels very Malory, the end brings us closer to the human drama TH White makes of the matter of England. Using Malory's language on stage works surprisingly well, the tragedy unfolds itself in unadorned rhythmic prose that creates real emotional intensity. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Sir Thomas Malory's classic telling of the Legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table is a cornerstone of English Literature, and has captured the imagination of generations. Mike Poulton's adaptation brings the familiar and not-so-familiar tales of Britain's first great epic to spectacular theatrical life. The adventure begins with the pulling of the magic sword from the stone, moves on to the establishment of the Round Table and the Quest for the Holy Grail, and ends with the death of the 'once and future king'. Woven through the narrative is the great love story of Launcelot and Guenever. This stage adaptation of Morte D'Arthur was first performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, in June 2010. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
