Since the 1947 publication of Marguerite Henry's Misty of Chincoteague, millions of visitors have come to a barrier island between Maryland and Virginia in search of wild horses. Featuring more than 150 full-color photographs, Wild Horses of the Dunes tells the visual story of these wild horses. Since 1924, the horses have been rounded up each July to swim across Chincoteague Bay from Assateague Island to the small town of Chincoteague. This is a book for horse lovers, and for anyone captivated by the beauty of the Eastern Shore and the long-standing traditions of a special place. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

A wonderful and colorful look at the ponies of Assateaque.
The ponies are rounded up yearly and driven into the water for the swim to Chincoteaque Island.
The ponies are sold to support the local volunteer fire department.
The book has many full page pictures they are big. The pages are about 9x12 so these beautiful pictures are huge!!
The biggest surprise was on page 51. Misty stuffed and on display in the old Beebe dining room, she looks awful. The taxidermist didn't do a very good job. I saw her when she was(alive) taken to drive-in movies in the 60's to promote the movie. If you love horses and are looking for a book to put on your coffee table this one is perfect! ( )
