Cohen advises us to search in the fields of Heathcare, Education, Government & Defense, "Green" jobs, Niche jobs, and Corporate jobs as needs for these will increase going forward according to the US Dep't of Labor.
For each job described, Cohen provides a useful OUTLOOK FOR...box listing the number of current jobs, number of potential new jobs to come, the percentage of growth, the geographical areas where the highest need will be, and the salary range. He also lists the general responsibilities of each position, the education required to begin and advance, and occasionally adds "a-day-in-the-life-of..." paragraph to more fully show what the position involves.
Cohen's best suggestions include: how to view and market the skills you already have as transferrable to other fields, the importance of working in different job fields and/or departments to get an optimal and balanced perspective, and overcoming personal obstacles i.e. fear to change, take risks, or lack of family support.
Recession-Proof Careers is a solid job search aid; organized, informative and optimistic.
