I loved this story because it hits close to home for the major I am in. The two parent monsters give birth to three tiny baby monsters. One was very frightful and the other was extremely horrid so that became their names. Everything was great until the third monster was born and it was sweet, cute and pink. The siblings of the monster as well as the father wanted to throw their cute baby sister in the trash can. But Mama Monster said that ‘he may look different but inside he is a monster just like them’. They ended up naming her ‘Little Shock’. This reminded me of what I have learned about parents who find out when their child is diagnosed with a disability and the poem, A trip to Holland. The main idea of the story is to let the reader know that no matter how different we act or look we are all the same on the inside. In the end of the story Little Shock ended up saving the day because she was so different. The illustrations in this story were very large and the monsters were colorful but still scary. They each had spikes and warts and hairy faces. But little shock was pink, soft and very fluffy. She always wore a smile on her face so it was easily noticed how different she was from other monsters. Overall the reader gets a different perspective, in this case from monsters, about somebody looking different that the rest of the population. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
